Protection Dog Training

Our next 6 week session of Group Protection Dog training classes (for beginner dogs only) will begin in 2025. Watch for the starting date to be announced in the future. Cher Car Kennels has been offering canine personal protection training for the family pet since 1977, which teaches your dog to be a social yet skilled bodyguard capable of protecting the kids and your household. (Read more here about "Understanding Canine Protection Training" and learn the answer to "What is a Protection Dog?"). Dogs must be at LEAST 10 months old and have completed one obedience class prior to or during the protection class. Most dogs will need a stout flat collar, a correction collar, and a strong leather lead. Some dogs may require additional equipment.
Classes meet for one hour each week, for a period of six weeks. Cost is $500. Please download and complete the TRAINING RELEASE FORM to bring with you the first night of class.
Protection Dog Training "Bite Nights" for Advanced Dogs will be offered on an intermittent basis. Watch for posted dates and times in the future. Dogs MUST be off-leash obedience trained, be able to perform a bite on sleeve, out on command, recall to handler and a “no bite” command like “friends” or similar. All training will be scenario-based. If you have not trained in protection with Cher Car Kennels before, you must contact Cheryl Carlson at 517-719-0208 before coming to training. Cost is $50 per night on a "pay as you go" basis.
Are you in need of immediate help in training your dog? Utilize our in-kennel board & train program. Visit our BOARDING SCHOOL TRAINING page for additional information.
This type of training does not make a dog "mean"; the dog is simply trained in the art of DEFENSE.
