Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever is friendly, energetic and playful and is now the second most popular breed of dog in the United States. Although the breed was originally developed as a retriever gun dog, their calm demeanor and adaptability makes them suitable for various tasks besides hunting. They are the most popular breed of assistance/service dog in the United States and many other countries, and approximately 60–70% of all guide dogs in the United States are Labradors. Labrador Retrievers also excel in scent work. They were first used by the military in World War II for bomb detection, which greatly expanded to alerting handlers to snipers, tripwires, and weapons caches during the Vietnam War, and they now locate improvised explosive devices, mortars, mines, and weapons in any military conflict. The breed is also used by the military as a tracking dog, locating injured enemies, missing personnel, or enemy positions. The Labrador Retriever is also an outstanding search and rescue dog in civilian life, locating lost, injured or concealed persons, and the breed is also used in water rescue. The friendly appearance of the Labrador Retriever has now made it a highly chosen breed for detection work in any public setting, such as bed bug or termite detection, smuggled goods or illegal imports detection at airports, along with contraband detection in prisons, narcotics detection on police forces, and bomb or weapons detection at stadiums, courthouses and other public venues. Cher Car Kennels has been providing working service dogs to the public, military and police since 1979, mostly in the form of German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds. We have been receiving requests from our clients over the past few years for Labrador Retriever service dogs, narcotics dogs and emotional support dogs for schools, offices, and medical settings. Therefore, in early 2022, we invested in an exceptionally well-bred Yellow Labrador Retriever puppy to raise up and after passing all health checks at 2 years of age and receiving OFA certification, implement into our breeding program.
